Awesome thing of the day: Bill Nighy hits London Fashion Week

I love Bill Nighy. He's just such a dude.

I also love Mulberry. Their status bags make me weep with desire in a way only a certain strata of men can otherwise do.

So this is like awesome squared: Bill Nighy frow (front row) at the Mulberry show at London Fashion Week. Check him out in all his dapper glory, sitting front and centre next to US Vogue's Anna 'Certified Fashion LEGEND' Wintour:

"Love hurts": Anton and Erin on tour

So I went to see Anton and Erin's latest tour, Let's Do It, this weekend.

Here's a potted review:

• It was fabulous
• Lance Ellington is still The Man (especially when clad in a purple tuxedo)
• Anton's Rear of the Year win was very much deserved
• If you've seen all the other tours, there wasn't a whole lot of new stuff here. Not necessarily a criticism by the way, just an observation
• I do have one criticism: the inclusion of Paolo Nutini's Pencil Full of Lead. Regardless of the fact I think it's a terrible song, the main problem was it didn't fit with the rest of the show and therefore felt like filler. Which is unfortunate given it was Erin's solo spot
• The return of the O Fortuna tango from Cheek to Cheek was very much welcome. Hot stuff.
• You should go and see it
• You should go and see it now.

In conclusion, I enjoyed an Anton and Erin tour show. Nothing new or eventful here. Why bother blogging it at all?

Well before and after the show were somewhat eventful. On the way, I got the heel of my (gorgeous, bright red and now slightly scuffed up) shoe stuck in a hole in the pavement. This resulted in quite a heroic incidence of falling over. Both knees were cut open in two places and really sore - the bruises are impressive - and I obviously went heavily onto my right hand as I still can't move or put pressure on my thumb properly. (Mum, if you're reading this I'm going to see a doctor tomorrow, promise). We were also running a bit late so I didn't have chance to clean my knees up before sitting down for the show. I don't know if you've ever felt had to extract bits of your tights from a congealing scab? Yeah, I did that in the interval and it's NOT pleasant.

Anyway, after the show we headed backstage as is the tradition. I should at this stage explain that the other half of 'we' was my male friend Chris, who is like 6'2" and very clearly not a woman. 

This detail apparently escaped the notice of the lovely Erin who met us at the stage door with an enthusiastic 'Hello ladies!' followed by a hasty '...and gentleman'. We laughed at that. Well, I laughed at that.

I decided, after some egging on from Chris (and necking half a bottle of wine at the interval), to tell Anton about my various wounds as a way of proving my status as Dedicated Fan. His response was priceless, and the real point of this post. After some quality hugging time he turned to me and said:

Well, they do say love hurts

And I have the bruises to prove it.

Grammys: Best Dressed

There's something fabulous about the Grammys. They're so brash, so bling. As a consequence the fashion is often - how shall I put this? - questionable. This year was no exception (Nicki Minaj, Fergie I'm looking at you) but there were some great looks too.

You know the drill by now. In no particular order etc etc:

Rihanna in Giorgio Armani

 
When you've got a body like hers, why bother with anything fussy? The clean lines and minimalist design of this dress show Rihanna off to amazing effect. Great accessories too - gold and black just works. Still unconvinced by her 80s hair though!

Kate Beckinsale in Zuhair Murad

Why was Kate Beckinsale at the Grammys? Who knows but her dress is stunning. I'm a huge fan of Grecian style draping and this dress shows exactly why. It's just flattering, whatever your figure. Lovely natural beauty look too. (In the unscientific test I do on my Pinterest Awards Season 2012 board this look was a runaway winner by the biggest margin of the season so far)

Kelly Rowland in Alberta Ferretti

Girlie loveliness. The detail on the bust is stunning and the colour is beautiful. Another less-is-more beauty look with minimal accessories - why do you need accessories in a dress this gorge?

Kelly Osbourne in Tony Ward

What was I saying about the Grammys being bling?! I love this assymetric column gown, especially the clever draping at the waist which really shows off a fabulously trim figure. Still unconvinced by the hair colour though.

Taylor Swift in Zuhair Murad

A second hit for Zuhair Murad - nice to see someone other than the usual big boys achieving that.The detail on this dress is so intricate and beautiful, and the colour is just the right nude tone for someone of Swift's colouring. Personally would have preferred a slightly less severe hair style, but overall still a great look.

BAFTAs: Best Dressed

I like the BAFTAs. They do have a certain pleasingly British quirkiness to them that the big LA ceremonies just don't have. They also tend to produce the winners list I agree most with and I was totally thrilled to see The Artist, Jean Dujardin, Meryl Streep and Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy walk away with awards last night.

But enough of that. Let's look at the fashion (spoiler: contains a man).

Michelle Williams in H&M

Yes you read that correctly. One of the biggest and coolest stars of the red carpet chose high street. Admittedly bespoke high street, but still. Regardless of who designed this dress, I love the simplicity of it and the fit is perfect for her boyish figure. I love the wit of the Olympia Le-Tan Arthur Miller clutch too (Miller was of course Marilyn Monroe's husband and Williams is award nominated for playing Monroe).

Meryl Streep in Vivienne Westwood 

One word: regal. Amazing, super flattering cut with immaculate hair and make up. Love the cropped jacket too which is edgy without going overboard. A fabulous look on a fabulous human being.

Fearne Cotton in Moschino

Proof that you don't have to be a Hollywood A Lister to steal the show on the BAFTA red carpet. The colour of this is fab and the jewels are beautiful. I love the definition that the black belt and dark jewelled neckline give too.

Melissa George in Victoria Beckham

Good to see Victoria Beckham getting a proper red carpet Moment. This sequinned beauty is pure glamour and George carries it off with aplomb. Pared down accessories make sure the dress does all the talking whilst the vampy hair and make up give the look a lush Old Hollywood vibe.

Eddie Redmayne in Burberry

The first bloke to make it into my top 5s this season is gorgeous Burberry model/actor/general bright young thing Eddie in a Burberry velvet tux. I have to admit I have a serious thing for velvet DJs and there were a lot of them on show at the BAFTAs (see also: Kenneth Branagh, Cuba Gooding Jr and Tom Hiddleston) but on balance I think the lovely Eddie wears it the best. Just. Extra points for the perfectly jaunty pocket square too.

Awesome thing of the day: Jean Dujardin's villain auditions

Two awesome things in one week? That's just how awesome Jean Dujardin is.

And I couldn't not post this. It's just brilliant.

Awesome thing of the day: Jean Dujardin & George Clooney bromance (AKA the Oscar nominees luncheon)

I love Jean Dujardin.

Like, obsessively.

Since seeing The Artist (genuinely the best film I've ever seen) he's joined the elite list of men over whom I obsess like a fifteen year older. George Clooney is also pretty easy on the eye. Or smoking hot, to be accurate. So the awesomeness of them getting all bromance-y at the Oscar nominees luncheon is colossal.

That's a whole lot of hotness, or at least a whole lot of men I fancy, in one place. I'm off for a cold shower.

Awesome thing of the day: Keira Knightley in Burberry

Ok so technically this was the awesome thing of yesterday night, but still.

Can we all just take a moment out of our day and look at this dress please? Because it's perfect.

How good does she look?! Amazing colour, beautiful cut, fabulous hair and make up, and that pout!

And just for added awesome, here's Michael Fassbender and Viggo Mortensen taking a spin around the dancefloor at the same event.

I love how into this Viggo looks. Mind you, dancing with Fassbender who can blame him?
